Called Custom Heating and Cooling in the morning for my AC unit that was not working. They had a technician at my house my 11:45am. Shawn, the tech was wonderful. He checked out the AC unit, explained the problem and corrected it immediately. He was awesome! We have been using this company for several years and have always received prompt and excellent service.

I’ve been a Custom Cooling customer for around 15 years; a satisfied customer until this last routine maintenance appointment on my AC system. A CC tech came yesterday afternoon and I let him do his thing with the outside unit after I moved the garden hose over for him to use to clean out the compressor unit.  When he was done with the outside he came in to check out the air handler.  After he finished, he stated everything checked out and I’d be receiving the invoice and report in an email.  A few hours later the invoice arrived with one attachment.  The attachment was a bunch of photos with no captions with them.  But there was a photo of him spraying the outside of the compressor unit.  So I went out and looked inside the unit. I’m a bit of a DiY guy and I usually will follow the tech around, try not to bug him or her with too many questions and I learn a lot.  This time I didn’t follow him around because I was busy inside, keeping cool.  One of the important parts of routine maintenance is removing debris from the cooling coils of the outside compressor unit.  EVERY TECH I’ve watched, EXCEPT THIS ONE first cuts power to the unit.  Removes 4 screws that secure the fan unit to the top of the base and carefully lay it to the side, being careful not to damage the attached wires.  Next, they take the garden hose with a nozzle (don’t use a power washer, the force can bend the little cooling fins) and spray from the interior of the unit toward the outside, through all the cooling coils that form the wall of the unit.   This can greatly improve the cooling efficiency and reduces the work on the compressor.   There’s always leaves and debris on the floor of the unit that’s best removed with your hands to work around all the wires and tubing.  When I went out to look in the compressor unit the floor was littered with leaves and crap. Instead of paying the invoice, I replied back stating the tech cut corners and didn’t properly clean out the compressor unit.  Only one photo showing him spraying water to the outside of the unit.  Maintenance was not properly done and I wanted it corrected.  They asked, what could they do to satisfy me.  I responded, send out a different tech to do the job right.  Their reply: “they reviewed the procedure with the tech and it was done satisfactorily by spraying the inside of the unit through the fan unit”.   Have you ever tried that?  I have. All you do is make the big fan spin like a top and spray water all over everywhere but where it should go! They were very cordial to waive the $100 bill, they cancelled my account and threw me out in the street!  Okay, I exaggerate. They didn’t throw me in the street, but they cancelled me as a customer. All I can say is, that’s customer satisfaction on a whole new level!  In the meantime, I went out the day after and did the job myself and sent the time-stamped photos to Custom Cooling. I guess the tech didn’t want to get his hands dirty.

We had a great experience with Custom Cooling at our previous home so we reached out and asked if Joe could come to our new home to check out the AC system. He reprogrammed the thermostat for us and now the AC runs much cooler and efficient in our home . We signed up for the maintenance program which is a great deal and something that is a must in SWF especially as we go into the summer season. We received Five star service! Joe is so personable and knowledgeable, We would highly recommend Custom Cooling.
