Exceptional Dining! I visited here on a weekday evening and was blown away. The atmosphere was calm and intimate, but the food and service were truly world-class. Every course was a hit—from the fresh, warm bread to the perfectly executed mains and decadent desserts. Their wine list is also seriously impressive and worth a look! What really made the night was the service. The staff is incredibly warm and professional; they truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a top-tier meal. Don't miss out!
this is a review for the christmas pre fixe dinner. we are locals who were looking to have a fun dinner. we’ve been to the grant grill for cocktails and snacks in the past, and it was excellent. to make a reservation we had to put a hold for the pre fixe through open table, which would lead you to assume that’s what the deal is for dinner. it was disappointing from the get go as we were given just a wine list, and nothing else, and when I tried to ask if the regular bar menu was also available, there seemed to be a push to choose from the wine list. the portions were very small and some dishes tasted prepared, my salad tasted like it was sitting on the plate or at least premixed for quite a while before, and our mains were lukewarm. the portions were quite small for 135$, nor did they have the taste factor of a chefs tasting portion. when i get up to use the restroom, i realized that if you just walk in for the evening, you could order off the regular menu both food and bar as no one else was eating the set menu. walking out of there spending 480$ for 2 people was much less festive than ordering à la carte with better food and beverage options for less than that.
I was out with a friend to see Les Miserable and went to the Grant Grill for dinner on a Friday night. The atmosphere was delightful and I was so excited to have a delicious meal. It began with what they called home made focaccia. The texture was fluffy and spongy like a white bread. Not what I was used to in a focaccia. For dinner I ordered the scallops as described here: HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS – $54 Carrot Ginger Purée, Chanterelle Mushrooms, Lemon Foam, Carrot Crisp The scallops were about the size of a quarter, with the exception of one, and not many of them for a main course meal. They were overcooked - tough and chewy. The meal was cold. The greens were overcooked soggy baby bok choy. As you can see in the photo, the mushrooms are NOT chanterelles. If you are out of chanterelles, then say so. The puree and foam were unmentionable. The presentation was sloppy and unappealing. If our waiter had come to check on us or been visible, I would have returned the meal. He appeared next with our check. And we were off to the show. This was a very disappointing experience.
We have been coming to the Grant Grill at the US Grant hotel for years, usually when attending an event at the Civic Theater. The grill has always been exceptional, until now. In addition, we arrived a bit early and were told that there were other reservations ahead of us and that we could wait in the bar and someone would notify us. Our reservation time came and went, no one came and we had to track someone down to be seated. We made a reservation, but we’re seated at the back by the kitchen door (very noisy and annoying). As reference, no one was seated at any number of tables that would have been preferable for the time we arrived and for the entire time we were there. The food was mid-to-poor compared to what we have had at the grill before. No flavor, presentation was not appetizing and my spouses salmon was cool. As there are so many great alternatives in the downtown area, we expected far better from The Grant Grill. We were extremely disappointed. Some reviewers may exaggerate, I am not. The wait staff, aside de from the front of house, was great.
The Grant Grill is undoubtedly a feast for the eyes. Nestled in the heart of the city, the restaurant exudes a timeless elegance that draws you in the moment you step through the door. We visited on a Friday night, and getting a reservation was refreshingly easy. The soft glow of ambient lighting, combined with the soothing melodies of live jazz—featuring a delicate mix of piano and saxophone—set the perfect backdrop for an evening of relaxation. However, the music leaned a little too heavily into “sleepy” territory, making it more of a lull than a lively accompaniment to dinner. Despite the beautiful surroundings and impeccable service, the food, unfortunately, did not live up to the same high standard. My friends all opted for the steak special, but the excitement quickly fizzled when the knives struggled to make their way through the tough cut. While the flavor wasn’t unpleasant, it failed to stand out in a way you’d expect from a signature dish. As for my meal, I went with the lobster gnocchi, hoping for something indulgent and flavorful. What arrived was a dish that felt more like a missed opportunity. While it wasn’t terrible by any means, it was far from the rich, decadent experience I had anticipated. The lobster was fresh, but the overall composition lacked the punch and depth needed to elevate it beyond just “okay.” The warm herb bread served in the beginning was probably my favorite part of the meal. In the end, the Grant Grill nails its ambience but falls short in delivering a memorable dining experience. With a setting so ideal, the food has the potential to match, but as of now, it seems to be playing catch-up.
